The Salvation Army is reaching out to the Hattiesburg community this holiday season to ask for your support in our annual Angel Tree program. With the holiday spirit in the air, we invite you to help brighten the lives of over 500 local children and seniors who need your kindness and generosity.
“Every year, Hattiesburg shows incredible generosity, making sure that those in need experience the magic of Christmas,” said Major Fred Thornhill of The Salvation Army. “This year, we ask everyone to step up and adopt an angel, ensuring that no child or senior is left out during this special time.”
The Angel Tree program provides gifts, clothing, and essential items for festive meals to families facing difficult choices between necessities and holiday joy. While we’ve seen some signs of economic improvement, many in our community still struggle financially.
“This year, we are experiencing a significant rise in requests for assistance,” Major Thornhill explained. “We need your help to ensure every child and senior has something to open on Christmas morning.”
Getting involved is simple. When you adopt an angel, you will receive a Christmas wish list that outlines the items a child or senior hopes to receive. After purchasing new clothing and toys, you can return the wish list tag and gifts to The Salvation Army. Our dedicated volunteers will organize the donations to distribute to families just before Christmas.
“Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our community,” Major Thornhill emphasized. “We know that the people of Hattiesburg will come through for us, just as they always have.”
