Mayor Toby Barker took the podium on Monday morning at the site of the long-awaited construction of Fire Station 2 to issue a proclamation declaring Sept. 7 through 15, 2025, as Fire Personnel Week.
“I’d like to thank Mayor Barker and the City of Hattiesburg for recognizing the fire department,” said chief of Hattiesburg Fire Department, Sherrocko Stewart. “The job first responders provide for the city is very important, and for it to be recognized at this magnitude is great for the citizens, the city and for the fire department.”
Barker went on to encourage Hattiesburg residents to participate in Fire Personnel Week by recognizing the courage and sacrifices of the department by showing appreciation to fire personnel in the city.
