10:00 a.m. Storytime with a Soldier
African American Military History Museum

Children will interact with a uniformed military veteran who will read a book, answer questions, have their photograph taken with the soldier and participate in an arts and crafts activity that is themed in concert with the book. This fun discovery teaches children to appreciate our military and those who serve.

Science Saturdays at Smith involve fun, engaging, hands-on STEM activities and guest speakers with a focus toward Pre-K through middle school students. The purpose of the Science Saturdays is to introduce children to the Smith family legacy (E. Hammond Smith and James Cohen, Pharmacists; Charles Smith, MD; and Grover Smith, Dentist and to promote and engage youth in STEM programs and careers.
Pop Rocks and Rolaids (4th-8th Grades) – Children will observe, compare and contrast the chemical reactions between Pop Rocks candy, soda and Rolaids.

Belt out "The Wizard and I," "Popular," "What Is This Feeling?", and more in the special screening at the historic Saenger Theatre. Featuring live action singers and dancers, there’s no telling what surprises await. Join a theater full of fans dressed up as your favorite and "Defying Gravity” as you sing along!

Tattoo enthusiasts and lovers of art will not want to miss the Second Annual Ink in the Alley. There will be two featured artists on the Saenger Theater stage who will be live tattooing clients, seven artists offering flash tattoos and fourteen alley artists who will showcase their work, sell art/stickers, book appointments for future tattoos. A tattoo contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum Alley. There will be winners in five categories which will be, Best American Traditional Tattoo, Best Tribal Tattoo, Best Anime Tattoo, Best Arm/Leg Sleeve and Most Unusual Tattoo.

Campers will:
• Cultivating their interests and passions to become engaged and responsible citizens in their community.
• Enhancing students’ understanding of representative democracy and their role and responsibilities as citizens.
• Strengthening their leadership skills and confidence to help generate ideas and solve problems for the betterment of their communities.
The camp will include interactive activities, guest speakers, tours of historical sites and action civics brainstorming sessions focusing on the importance of civic engagement. Over the course of the camp, based on personal interest, students will identify a need in the community and create a plan to address it. On June 14th at 12:00 noon there will be a Community Showcase where students will present their projects. The camp is sponsored by Renasant and in partnership with The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for Black Studies and School of Education.
