Hattiesburg City Council’s meetings that would have normally been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday were held at 4 p.m. on Thursday. During citizen’s forum, two citizens from Ward 5 spoke to the council regarding issues with blight and dumping in their neighborhoods. Both citizens told the council that they were happy to help with the effort but needed additional support with funding and code enforcement.
After the conclusion of citizen’s forum, the following business was conducted:
-Approval of the minutes from the July 7 and 8 meetings of the city council
-Acceptance of the Planning Commission’s recommendation to vacate and close an alley located north of 3509 Hardy Street, which is currently working on redeveloping the former site of Raising Cane’s
-Multiple requests placed by representatives for the Lincoln Legacy Masterplan and Development were tabled until the next meeting to allow council members to review the case more thoroughly
-Approval of an agreement with Volkert, Inc. for the initial inspection of the Hall Avenue Overpass bridges
-Adoption of the July 24, 2025 amendments to the budget for the City of Hattiesburg for the fiscal year ending on Sept. 30, 2025, and adoption of the resolution for publication of amendments
-Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding with Mississippi Fire Academy and Hattiesburg Fire Department to administer the Driver/Operator Pumper Field Course
-Approval of contractor and owner agreements for the emergency roof repair initiative for the following properties: 109 Montague Street, 441 Gasaway Loop and 13 Annie Christie Drive
-Ratification and confirmation of the mayor’s appointments of Lindsay Caminita, Jennie Carroll, Jerry Bouie, Samone Wilson and Jeff Rose to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
-Ratification and confirmation of the mayor’s re-appointment of Brandon Williams to the Board of Adjustments
- Ratification and confirmation of the mayor’s re-appointment of Elayne Lockett to the Planning Commission
-Approval of a contract with M & P Construction for the Katie Dabbs Community Center Project to increase the contract amount to $13,256.99
-Approval of the entire routine agenda and claims docket
