The Nov. 4 and 5 Hattiesburg City Council meetings projected and finalized many improvements throughout the Hub City including cleanup of condemned properties, infrastructure grants, and continued tax exemptions for businesses in industrial row, major players in Hattiesburg employment. The following business occurred during the meetings:
-Approval of minutes from Oct. 21 and 22 city council meetings
-Denial of variance request to allow a 100’ flagpole to be erected at Toyota of Hattiesburg. While there is no ordinance in Hattiesburg regarding the height of flag poles, specifically, the council uses the maximum structure height of 72’ as per the building code for zone B-5.
- Adoption of resolution condemning the following properties: 114 Brookwood Lane, 104 South 34th Avenue, 210 South 34th Avenue, 114 St. Joseph Street, 434 Buschman Street, 523 Louise Street, 612 Dearborne Street, 901 River Avenue, 907 River Avenue, 6 Alder Lane, 224 Fredna Avenue and 4881 US Highway 49
-Adoption of resolutions to access and set the costs and penalties for the cleanup of the above properties within the limits set by state law
-Adoption of a resolution declaring the intention of the governing body of the city to issue a negotiable note, series 2024, in the amount not to exceed $4 million for capital improvement projects
-Adoption of resolutions granting and allowing ad valorem tax exemptions for the following companies and terms: Georgia-Pacific Consumer Operations, LLC for 10 years, Western Container Corporation for 10 years, Resinall Corporation for 10 years, Wis-Pak for eight years, BP Rex Closures, LLC for five years, Sofidel America Corp for 10 years, Zeon Chemicals, L.P. for 10 years, York International Corporation for 10 years, Green Bay Converting, Inc. for 10 years, JPM of Mississippi, Inc. for 10 years and Mississippi Tank Company for 10 years
-Adoption of Nov. 5 amendments to the budget for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2024 and authorization of publication of said amendments
-Adoption of a resolution amending the request for infrastructure for certain streets within the Augusta Court subdivision and accepting as public streets and accepting the infrastructure of the subdivision within the city limits
-Approval and authorization of funding for the “MLK Water and Sewer” project
-Approval and authorization of funding for the “W. 7th Street Infrastructure Improvements” project
- Approval and authorization of funding for the “Edwards St. Sewer” project
-Approval of an agreement with Powell Construction Services for repair and maintenance of traffic signals for a period from Nov. 1, 2024 through Nov. 30, 2025
-Approval of an as-built contract change order with Chris Albritton Construction for the Bobby L. Chain Airport Taxiway A Realignment project for a decrease of $258,191.00, authorization of final acceptance of the project, and authorization to issue payment
-Approval of a lighting agreement with Mississippi Power Company for additional street lighting on 40th Place for a monthly increase of $23.10
-Acknowledgement of bids received for 7th, 25th and Grace Avenue Infrastructure Improvements projects and acceptance of the lowest bid from TL Wallace Construction, Inc. in the amount of $4,622,432.29
-Acknowledgement of bids received for the Unified Neighborhood Infrastructure Improvements Phase I Project and acceptance of the lowest bid from R&J Construction, Inc. in the amount of $2,185,814.45
-Acknowledgement of bids received for the Innswood Drainage Improvements Phase I Project and acceptance of the lowest bid from Glenn W. Leonard, Inc. in the amount of $1,258,294.50
-Approval of an agreement between the City of Hattiesburg and Pine Belt Regional Solid Waste Management Authority for disposal of solid waste
-Approval of an agreement between the City of Hattiesburg and Hattiesburg Optimist Club in the amount of $15,000 for operation and promotion of Hattiesburg Dixie Boys Baseball
-Approval of the 2024-2025 VisitHattiesburg Tourism Grant award in the amount of $4,250 in support of Midnight on Front Street
-Approval of the state holiday schedule as the city’s holidays for the 2024-2025 fiscal year
-Adoption of an ordinance setting the salary of the mayor and city council
-Approval of a resolution declaring Forrest County PPIN 1488, 1489, and 39311 necessary for public use and in the best interest of the public to enter an agreement in the Special Court of Eminent Domain for Forrest County in an amount not to exceed $350,000
-Approval of a memorandum of understanding between City of Hattiesburg and Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration for $300,000 for improvements to Tipton Street
Approval of a memorandum of understanding between City of Hattiesburg and Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration for $3.5 million for improvements to the Avenues area
-Approval of agreement between City of Hattiesburg and BRINC Drones, Inc. to provide devices and services for city use
-Acknowledgement and approval of the following items on the routine agenda- 2024 expenditure report from the Youth Soccer Association, 2024 expenditure report from the Optimist Club for the Hattiesburg Dixie Boys Baseball, receipt of the two-quote docket, authorization of publication of the public hearing regarding the city and MS4 Stormwater Management Program, authorization of the advertisement for bids for the construction of Fire Station #2, plans and specifications for the Sims Road Boat Ramp Improvements Project and claims docket for the period ending Oct. 31, 2024
