North Forrest High School made the formal decision to cancel its football season on Monday. However, the decision was made not because of the COVID-19 pandemic but due to a of lack of numbers.
“Monday around noon, myself and a district office person discussed some of the things that we were going through and ending up coming to the agreement that we cancel,” Assistant principal and North Forrest coach Anthony Dillon said. Small roster sizes and players transferring have been a lingering issue for North Forrest the last several years.
North Forrest had 15 players on its roster with four of those players being seniors.
“Lack of numbers was one of the mains reasons,” Dillon said. “We discussed the safety of the kids and that we might have been putting kids in unsafe situations.” North Forrest had an eight game schedule set for the 2020 season.
Dillon who is in his eighth season as head football coach says that the players will continue to workout and condition.
North Forrest’s other fall sports will play as scheduled.
