The large pavilion at Hinton Park in Petal will no longer be available on a rental basis, as the Petal Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to discontinue that option for financial reasons.
However, the pavilion will still be available to participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
“It is costing the city more to set up the pavilion for rentals on weekends than it brings in,” Mayor Hal Marx said. “Going to a first-come, first-served system will save money.
“So if you want to get out there and set your (things) up, then you’ve got your party set up. That will be better than us trying to get our people out there on a Saturday.”
In other action, the board:
• Accepted the resignation of Michael Rockenbach II from the Parks and Recreation Department;
• Appointed Jeffrey Ginn to the city’s planning commission for a term to expire July 20, 2024; and
• Accepted the resignation of David Clark from the Parks and Recreation Department, effective July 16.
