A Lamar County School District teacher was terminated Thursday after allegations of a possible inappropriate relationship with a student.
Superintendent Tess Smith said school officials were notified of the incident last week and began an immediate investigation.
“The teacher has been terminated and the issue reported to the (Mississippi) Department of Education Department of Licensure,” Smith said in a statement. “We take this type of report very seriously and will continue to investigate all allegations and take full and immediate action.”
The names of the teacher and the school are not being released at this time.
The incident marks the second occurrence of improper relationships in the school district since 2017.
In June, Jenny Christine Hipp, a speech-language pathologist with the school district, was arrested for statutory rape after an alleged relationship with a student. Hipp was arrested by Jones County authorities on a warrant from Lamar County.
