Officials sworn in for new terms in Forrest and Lamar counties


A host of officials from Forrest and Lamar Counties were sworn in to their new terms Monday morning after winning their seats in the recent November general election. Swearing-in ceremonies were conducted by judges in the circuit courts in each of the counties, with each term running for four years.


Forrest County welcomed a new Sheriff in Charlie Sims, as well as a new District 2 Supervisor in Sharon Thompson. Following the swearing-in ceremony, the board members chose District 1 Supervisor David Hogan to continue as president and District 4 Supervisor Rod Woullard as vice president.

Those who were sworn in include:

• Lance C. Reid, Chancery Clerk

• Gwen Wilks, Circuit Clerk

• Douglas “Butch” Benedict Jr., Coroner

• David Frank Myers, County Prosecutor

• Charlie Sims, Sheriff

• Mary Ann Palmer, Tax Collector

• Supervisors David Hogan (District 1), Sharon Thompson (District 2), Burkett Ross (District 3), Rod Woullard (District 4), Chris Bowen (District 5)

• Wes Curry, Justice Court Judge Post 1

• Zachary M. Vaughn, Justice Court Judge Post 2

• Gay Polk-Payton, Justice Court Judge Post 3

• Robert Davis, Justice Court Judge Post 4

• Mike Harris, Constable Post 1

• John Tryner, Constable Post 2

Among several returning officials, Lamar County welcomed a new chancery clerk and two new members of the Lamar County Board of Supervisors. Following the swearing-in ceremony, the board members chose District 2 Supervisor Warren Byrd as the new president of the board and District 1 Supervisor Steve Lampton as vice president.

Those who were sworn in by Judges Brad Touchstone and Tony Mozingo include:

• Hal Kittrell, 15th Circuit Court District Attorney

• Danny Rigel, Sheriff

• Jamie Aultman, Chancery Clerk. Aultman takes over for outgoing clerk Wayne Smith, who retired at the end of his last term.

“It feels great to actually make it official, and to get started for the citizens of Lamar County,” Aultman said after his first meeting. “The meeting went very well, and I thought it was great for the first one; we got a lot taken care of. I’m terribly grateful to be here.”
