hattiesburlesque returns to the stage for three nights only

When local artist and soulful songstress Abigail Lenz Allen and local coach and choreographer Rebecca Chandler were introduced several years ago, they instantly learned they shared an interest in live music, live dance performance, musical theatre and the local downtown scene. Out of this new friendship, Hattiesburlesque was born.

And for a three-night run, starting tonight, guests can see how that friendship has developed and evolved into a high-energy burlesque style music and dance review.

Now, with 10 seasons under their (garter) belts, Hattiesburlesque returns to the Thirsty Hippo this weekend with  prohibition-themed performances.

A nod to traditional burlesque, the show features live musical performances by local musicians, including Imani Steven of The Soul Session, Lynsey Terry and Scott Chism of Scott Chism and the Better Half, and Leeann Rogers of Wild Frames to name a few.

Donning shades of blue, feathers and sequins, the cast of more than 20 men and women encourage audience members to join in on the fun and dress in their best Prohibition-era burlesque attire. Hattiesburlesque features ladies ages 18 to 62 of all shapes, sizes, career paths and stages of life.

As always, local comedian Brittany Purvis plays emcee for the festivities, which kick off at 8PM on Thursday (9PM on the two following nights). With Saturday’s performance already sold out, there are a handful of seats left for Friday and this evening’s performances. Advance ticket sales are encouraged and can be bought at hattiesburglivemusic.com. If available, tickets will be sold at the door and start at $10 for standing room only.
