Hattiesburg Clinic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is offering a Friday Night Injury Clinic to local student athletes throughout the high school football season.
The goal of the Injury Clinic is to provide athletes who are injured during a game immediate treatment at the specialty clinic instead of visiting the emergency room or urgent care location.
At the Friday Night Injury Clinic, the team of sports medicine physicians and athletic trainers treat routine injuries and provide various services, including wound care, physical therapy, radiological services, casting, hydration therapy and more. For suspected concussions, physicians can also assess whether further imaging is necessary. If a player experiences a more severe injury, they will be referred to an emergency department.
“In the past, athletic injuries were almost always treated through the emergency room, but now we can offer athletes and parents a different option,” David Freeman, ATC, with Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, said. “The most beneficial aspect of the Friday Night Injury Clinic is giving parents peace of mind, knowing that their child will see a sports medicine trained physician the night the injury occurs instead of waiting until the next day or going to the ER.”
The Injury Clinic is open Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and is located in the Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine building at 103 Medical Park in Hattiesburg, next to Tatum Park. Hattiesburg Clinic athletic trainers covering games will contact the clinic if a parent and child are traveling to the facility. Parents may also contact the facility prior to arrival.
“Friday Night Injury Clinic is indispensable for athletes, parents/guardians, coaches and athletic trainers,” Phillip Scott, ATC, with Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, said. “With Injury Clinic, an emergency room visit is not required on a Friday night, and athletes do not have to wait until Monday to get treatment or answers pertaining to an injury. Instead, the athlete can go directly to the clinic and see our orthopedic doctors who specialize in sport injuries. This is a game changer for all schools that are covered by Hattiesburg Clinic.”
“When you're able to offer expedited treatment for their child, parents are grateful,” Freeman added. “That's what we have always been able to do best through the Friday Night Injury Clinic.”
