Tracie Fowler has announced her intention to retire as President/CEO of United Way of Southeast Mississippi (UWSEMS), effective March 31, 2026. In preparation for this transition, the UWSEMS Board of Directors has established a search committee to identify and select her successor.
Under Fowler’s leadership, the organization was transformed from a fundraising unit into a collaborative organization mobilizing businesses, community leaders, not-for-profit organizations, government agencies and communities to expand opportunities for people to succeed. Today, United Way of Southeast Mississippi raises more than $1 Million each year during its annual workplace campaign, and nearly $300K through additional fundraising efforts, to provide support to 11 partner agencies across Southeast Mississippi.
“Tracie Fowler has been a transformational leader for the United Way of Southeast Mississippi,” said Jerry DeFatta, Immediate Past Board Chair. “During her service in this role, she has been a champion for those who are working to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve alongside her and am confident the next leader will benefit greatly from her investment in the organization.”
Prior to being named CEO, Fowler served as a volunteer on the Community Impact Committee and as a Board Member. “I’ve always respected United Way as a vital force in the Hattiesburg community,” said Fowler. “Over the past decade, it’s been an honor to serve in this role and help our communities navigate challenges—from flooding and tornadoes to a global pandemic—and emerge stronger each time. I’ve stayed committed to making sure every dollar donated to United Way drives real, positive change, and I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished together.”
United Way of Southeast Mississippi mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive. We bring a comprehensive approach to every challenge, actively listening and responding to local needs.
