Surgeons at The Orthopedic Institute, Forrest Health’s free-standing orthopedic hospital, are now offering patients robotically-assisted total knee replacement surgery with the TMINI® Miniature Robotic System, exclusively with Persona® The Personalized Knee® System.
The TMINI System is a small, handheld wireless robot that helps surgeons during knee replacement surgery. It works with the Persona Knee System, which offers more implant sizes and shapes to better match each patient’s knee and improve movement, aiming to provide an optimal outcome for the patient.
“We’re pleased to make the TMINI System available for patients undergoing a total knee replacement procedure,” said Steve Jackson, Forrest Health vice president. “This advanced technology is another great tool to assist surgeons in executing precise surgical procedures for their patients. The Orthopedic Institute is proud to support surgeons and patients with advanced technologies that facilitate great outcomes.”
Utilizing CT scans of the patient's knee, the system creates a unique and detailed 3D knee model. This model is then used by the TMINI System to perform a robotically assisted total knee procedure, specifically tailored to the patient’s knee, with accuracy and precision, under the complete control of the surgeon.
“The world of surgery continues to evolve and orthopedics is moving more and more towards a personalized approach to surgery,” said Dr. Matthew T. Valentine, MD, Hattiesburg Clinic orthopaedic surgeon. “This is a great example of technology that will ensure our patients continue to receive the best product available and should help us improve patients’ quality of life through improved precision and efficiency for a wide range of pathologies.”
