Forrest Health has named Will Tweedy, RN, in ICU at Forrest General Hospital, as its DAISY Award winner for July. The DAISY award, which is presented monthly to a deserving nurse or nurses, exemplifies clinical expertise and compassionate care and is recognized as a role model in the nursing community.
“Will was my nurse while I was in ICU, and he did everything he could to make me as comfortable as possible while on his shift,” said his nominator. “A very personable and witty young man, he had me laughing when I was feeling sad, comforted me when I had a ‘pity party’p for myself, explained every procedure he needed to do on/for me, and was extremely quiet while trying to do a procedure while I was sleeping. He was always asking if there was anything he could do for me. When shift change came, he explained to his replacement that I was "the worst patient he'd ever had" with the biggest smile on his face. I reciprocated by explaining that he was "the worst nurse I'd ever had,” when in truth he'd made an impression on me that I'll never forget. I hope that he gets the recognition he deserves – he truly is one of the best!”
Tweedy lives in Petal and received his degree from Jones College. He said his decision to seek a career in the healthcare field was to help people and “I chose Forrest General to help people who are in the community that raised me.”
“A nurse, like Will, and others, who have been nominated for and honored with the DAISY Award during the past year, are an integral part of what makes Forrest Health such a caring and compassionate place for your healthcare needs,” said Phyllis Chambers-Berry, Forrest Health vice president. “I am so proud of Will and how hard he works to make our Forrest General patients feel appreciated and cared for in such a warm manner.”
