Forrest County Chancery Court Judge Sheila Smallwood signed off on a temporary restraining order against property owner, Kelvin D. Anderson, after officials were notified of an event, “Wet and Wild Pool Party,” planned for July 12. This order was filed by the Forrest County Board of Supervisors on Thursday as part of an ongoing, community-wide effort to reduce youth crime and violence.
The document outlines the need for the order due to previous incidents at and/or adjacent to the property of illegal and disorderly conduct such as public drunkenness, discharging of firearms, physical altercations and loud music. Investigators have reason to believe that the property has a connection to the incident taking place in Hattiesburg on July 5, when two males and a female were shot and another female was struck by a vehicle.
“This type of violence and behavior will not be tolerated,” said Terri Bell, president of the board of supervisors. “The county is taking action to protect the community.”
According to the order, Anderson cannot use his property as a “party house” or make his property available for events that promote the gathering of large crowds, violence, reckless behavior, discharging of firearms or consumption of alcohol by minors. The order also blocks Anderson from disrupting, blocking or impeding in any way the flow of traffic on Lott Town Road, where the property is located. Anderson is also ordered to immediately post the notice on social media to inform all potential attendees that the event was cancelled and that ticket holders will be refunded.
