Only two area teams remain undefeated, as Sacred Heart and Oak Grove both maintained their perfect marks.
Sacred Heart 34, St. Andrew’s 10
Sacred Heart is off to the program’s second-ever 3-0 start. Quarterback Kyron Murphy and running back DJ Booth both delivered critical performances again. Murphy was 10 of 13 and tossed for 245 yards and three touchdowns, with Booth rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. Sacred Heart stays on the road next week to face Sylva-Bay Academy (0-5), which comes off a 35-13 loss to St. Patrick.
Oak Grove 32, Hattiesburg 14
The Warriors (3-0) won their fifth straight meeting against crosstown rival Hattiesburg (1-2). Leading the defense in the Warriors’ win was Jaylan Moore, who put up 12 tackles ,while quarterback AJ Maddox threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Oak Grove will host Madison-Ridgeland Academy (4-1), which comes off a 42-14 victory over St. Joseph Catholic. Hattiesburg stays at home to face Biloxi (2-1), which defeated George County 34-14.
FCAHS 18, Vancleave 6
The Aggies (2-1) pick up their second straight win as FCAHS forced four turnovers in the win. Cortez Sims led the Aggies’ defensive effort as he posted 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and forced a fumble. Running back Omarion Reed accounted for 56 yards and a touchdown, and Terrance Horne accounted for 100 all-purpose yards and a receiving touchdown. FCAHS travels to face Greene County (0-3), which suffered a 51-19 loss to Wayne County.
Lumberton 42, West Marion 8
The Panthers (1-2) pick up their first win of the season. Lathan Bowens accounted for 300 all-purpose yards with a touchdown as well as a two-point conversion. Bowens also had five tackles on defense. Lumberton stays on the road to take on Wesson (3-0), which defeated Perry Central last week 42-7.
Purvis 35, North Forrest 20
The Tornadoes (2-1) got back in the win column, while North Forrest (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season. Purvis running back Moses Cummings ran for 256 yards and four touchdowns, while Cole Ladner contributed 14 tackles. North Forrest running back Cephuis Pruitt led the Eagles with 136 yards and a touchdown, along with Davion Young and Barry Martin, who each contributed a touchdown run. Purvis travels to play Oak Forest Academy (La.). North Forrest returns home to face South Jones.
Seminary 51, Sumrall 42
The Bobcats (2-1) held a 42-33 lead at the end of the third quarter but surrendered 13 points in the fourth quarter to lose their first game of the season. In the loss, quarterback Landon Hawkins tossed for 336 yards, four touchdowns and two picks with Jacyree Washington being his top target, hauling in nine catches for 191 yards and a touchdown. Hayden Campbell hauled in two receiving touchdowns and a kickoff return for a touchdown. Sumrall will host West Marion (0-3).
Columbia 42, Petal 21
The Panthers (2-1) dropped their first game of the season. Running backs Corey Toole and Chavez Walker each ran for a rushing touchdown, while quarterback Eli Causey 14 of 26 throwing for 169 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Petal returns home to face Hancock (3-0), which defeated St. Martin 42-7 last week.
Hartfield Academy 42, PCS 6
The Bobcats (2-2, 0-1) open district play with a loss. PCS will have a bye next week.
