Purvis 35, Northeast Lauderdale 21
The Tornadoes snap a two-game skid and improve to 5-4 overall. Running back Moses Cummings ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Jojo Parker was 7 of 10 throwing for 115 yards and two scores. Tommy Easterling recorded 13 tackles and ran for 65 yards and a touchdown. Purvis will finish the regular season by hosting Columbia (9-0, 3-0) next week. The Wildcats clinched the region last week after defeating Lawrence County 41-14.
FCAHS 10, Sumrall 0
The Aggies earn their first district win as they improve to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in region play. Sumrall falls to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in region action. In the defensive battle the Bobcats were led by Brednan Lewis, who put up 12 tackles. For the Aggies, Karl Hedgeman had a team-leading nine tackles. FCAHS will travel to face Lawrence County (4-5, 2-1) next week, while Sumrall will enjoy a bye before the start of postseason play. The winner of this game will be the No. 2 seed for Region 7-4A. If Lawrence County wins and Colubmai beats Purvis, then FCAHS is the No. 3 seed and Sumrall is the No. 4 seed. If FCAHS and Columbia win, then Lawrence County is the No. 3 seed and Sumrall is the No. 4 seed. If Purvis wins and Lawrence County wins, then Purvis is the No. 3 seed and FCAHS is the No. 4 seed. If Purvis and FCAHS win, then Lawrence is the No. 3 seed and Purvis is the No. 4 seed.
Oak Grove 45, Northwest Rankin 14
The Warriors win their final road game of the regular season and move to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the region. Running back Tajii Burkett ran in a touchdown and had two receiving touchdowns as he finished the game with 218 all-purpose yards off 18 touches. Kylin Champagne ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Maddox had a team-leading 11 tackles, while PJ Woodland came down with two interceptions. Oak Grove returns home to host Pearl (6-2, 1-2), which comes off a 42-20 loss to Brandon.
Hattiesburg 46, Pearl River Central 6
Hattiesburg wins its final road game of the regular season to improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. Quarterback Deuce Vance was 8 of 9 throwing for 156 yards, three touchdowns, an interception and ran for 32 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Tamoz Barnes had two catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Cam Craft totaled 1o tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. The Tigers return home to face Terry (5-3, 1-1), which enjoyed a bye last week.
Meridian 27, Petal 8
The Panthers’ losing streak extends to three straight as they fall to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the region. The lone touchdown came from Chavez Walker, who finished with 61 yards on five carries. Petal hosts Northwest Rankin (5-3, 1-2) next week.
Mize 43, North Forrest 13
The Eagles drop to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in region play. North Forrest will host Leake Central (3-5, 1-2) to end the regular season. The Gators suffered a 56-27 loss last week to Newton County. Mize clinches the region, and North Forrest clinches the No. 4 seed for Region 8-2A.
Jackson Academy 62, PCS 22
The Bobcats fall to Jackson Academy and drop to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in district play. PCS will host Madison-Ridgeland Academy (7-3, 3-1) to conclude the regular season. MRA comes off a 50-44 win over Jackson Prep.
Resurrection Catholic 34, Sacred Heart 24
The Crusaders suffer their first loss of the season as they drop to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in region action. Sacred Heart will travel to face Enterprise to end the regular season.
Lumberton earned a forfeit win over Salem to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in region play. The Panthers will host Resurrection to conclude the regular season.
If Resurrection beats Lumberton by nine points or less then Resurrection is the No. 1 seed, Sacred Heart the No. 2 seed and Lumberton the No. 3 seed.
If Lumberton beat Resurrection by exactly 10 points, then it will come down to point differential allowed in the region games between Lumberton, Resurrection and Sacred Heart to determine the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. If Lumberton beats Resurrection by 11 points or more, then Lumberton will be the No. 1 seed, Resurrection the No. 2 seed and Sacred Heart the No. 3 seed for Region 8-1A. East Marion has clinched the No. 4 seed for the region.
