The Mississippi High School Activities Association released its new reclassification for the 2025-27 sports season.
The announcement, which came on Nov. 20, featured three area schools moving up in classification which are Purvis, Sumrall, and Sacred Heart, while Presbyterian Christian was placed in its first-ever class as an MHSAA school.

Lumberton remained in Class 1A, with its 117 students ranking 30th out of 45 schools in the class. The Panthers’ main region opponents will consist of Stringer, Resurrection Catholic, Richton and Taylorsville.
Sacred Heart moved back up to Class 2A and rejoined North Forrest in the same region, similar to the 2020-22 alignment. Their main region foes for the two schools will also include Collins, East Marion and Perry Central. Sacred Heart’s enrollment was listed at 161 students, which ranks them as 36th out of the 40 schools in Class 2A, while North Forrest’s 178 students placed it at 23rd.
As expected, PCS was placed in Class 3A, with its 256 students ranking it at 25th out of 40 schools. The school's main region opponents will include St. Patrick, St. Stanislaus, Tylertown, West Marion and Our Lady Academy.
Forrest County AHS was the only area school to remain in Class 4A. It's 421 enrollment size makes it the 14th largest school in the class. Its new region opponents will include Bay High, Greene County, Moss Point and Pass Christian.
Purvis and Sumrall moved up to Class 5A and will play in separate regions. Sumrall'sSumrall’s region will consist of Brookhaven, Laurel, Natchez, North Pike and South Jones, while Purvis'Purvis’ region opponents feature East Central, Northeast Jones, Stone, Vancleave and Wayne County.
Hattiesburg remains in Class 6A with its 762 enrollment, ranking it 14th out of 24 schools. Its region opponents include Forest Hill, George County, Jim Hill, Terry, West Jones and Gautier.
Petal and Oak Grove remain in Class 7A and are in the same region. Their region opponents include Brandon, Meridian, Northwest Rankin, Pearl and Biloxi. Oak Grove has the sixth largest enrollment, with 1,355 students. Petal has the 16th largest enrollment size in Class 7A at 1,060 students.
The new reclassification will take effect in August of 2025.
