To celebrate Classical Music Month in September, FestivalSouth is offering free assistance to Pine Belt area bands, choirs, orchestras, and other musical groups by promoting their Classical music event through its social media channels. A link to submit the necessary information for the September events is available through August 22 at festivalsouth.org.
“Our area is uniquely equipped to produce high caliber arts events, particularly in the genre of Classical music,” said Dr. Mike Lopinto, Executive Director of the Hattiesburg Concert Association and Artistic Director of FestivalSouth. “We are happy to help our musical colleagues showcase their events with our incredible network of music lovers during September.”
Celebration of Classical Music Month started in 1994 by President Bill Clinton, who declared every September as Classical Music Month. His proclamation stated, “Classical music is a celebration of artistic excellence. This month we exalt the many talented composers, conductors, and musicians who bring classical music to our ears. Music is a unifying force in our world, bringing people together across vast cultural and geographical divisions.”
Today’s rock, jazz, or country music all find their inspiration and roots in classical music. Many sample it for modern updates in the latest hits. It is important to celebrate Classical Music Month to preserve the legacies of great musicians and introduce this genre to new audiences.
Audiences are encouraged to celebrate Classical Music Month by attending your local symphony orchestra, choir, chamber or large ensemble performance.
