FestivalSouth® brings even more art, music, theatre, and dance events to the Hattiesburg area through June 24, 2023. This weekend, as the nation recognizes Father’s Day, celebrate your dad by taking him out to one of the many events happening all over town. Tickets and complete schedule are available now at FestivalSouth.org.
Treat yourself to the best of Broadway at “Spectacular, Spectacular,” on Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hattiesburg Cultural Center. Enjoy incredible singers performing music from iconic Broadway shows, including Les Misérables, Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen, Sweeney Todd, and many more! Featuring Temperance Jones, Maryann Kyle, Katie Newton, Jessica Wilkinson, Brett Barnes, Paul Houghtailing, Matt Morgan, and accompanied by The Tyler Kemp Trio, this show has something for everyone and will make you realize why the same word was used twice in the shows' title.
Wet your whistle and your musical palette with a beer pairing at “bee(R)thoven” on Friday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot. After cheering on your friends who played in the sold out FestivalSouth World Championship Golf Classic at Canebrake Country Club earlier that day, this will be a great way to beat the heat and have a great Friday night out!
On the heels of performances at festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Forecastle, Matt Maeson comes to FestivalSouth for the conclusion of his “That’s My Cue” Tour where he will rock out the historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theatre on Saturday, June 17. The chart-topping musician is presented by FestivalSouth, the Hattiesburg Saenger Theater and the City of Hattiesburg.
After Matt Maeson, head over to Brewsky’s and dance the night away with “Celebración Nocturna.” Presented in part by Dr. Jaime Jiménez at Southern Eye Center and featuring Arrebato Orquesta, this Ecuadorian Latin band, who will be celebrating their first ever time in the USA, will help check your worries at the door and embrace all that a Noche Latina has to offer!
“We are thrilled to host the winners of their national music competition on their first visit in the United States,” said FestivalSouth Artistic Director Dr. Mike Lopinto. “You won’t want to miss this incredible high energy group and party into the night with them at Brewskys.”
Adding to the events on June 17 are the Columbia Kids’ Arts Festival, a concert by the FestivalSouth Youth Orchestra and USA Dance’s June Social Dance. More information at festivalsouth.org.
On Sunday, June 18, A very special performance of “Voices of Freedom” explores Black culture and the civil rights movement through stories, spoken word, and song with special guest, James Meredith, at the Historic Eureka School.
A significant cultural and economic driver for the Pine Belt, FestivalSouth calls on the community to join them by participating and supporting the arts of this and other organizations by their visible attendance at events. Performances are nominally priced, or free to encourage the largest turnout possible. Advance tickets to public events are strongly recommended as the popular events sell-out quickly.
