No need to clutch your pearls — when Extra Table says Give ’Em a Bird, we mean it! This holiday season, Extra Table is once again putting whole chickens on the tables of hungry Mississippi families through its annual Give ’Em A Bird campaign.
For thousands of Mississippians, the question this holiday season isn’t what to serve — it’s how to serve at all. With the government shutdown and SNAP benefits ending, it is not whether to go with a hot or cold green bean casserole, but how to afford a meal that brings their family together at all.
This campaign, presented by Renasant Bank, raises funds to provide whole chickens to food-insecure families across the state. Each $15 donation feeds families by providing three whole frozen chickens distributed through Extra Table’s network of 66 food pantries and soup kitchens. “Mississippi is one of the most food-insecure states in the nation, and the holidays can be especially hard,” said Martha Allen Price, Executive Director of Extra Table. “We’re inviting everyone to take part — individuals, churches, businesses, schools — and help us fill tables with food and hope.”
Extra Table will officially kicked off the 2025 Give ’Em A Bird campaign November 1 st asking for assistance from the public in naming of the turkey to be pardoned a 4 th Annual Official Mississippi Turkey Pardoning at the Governor’s Mansion on Wednesday, November 5 th . From there, community texting parties and grassroots fundraisers will take place statewide as Mississippians work together to reach this year’s ambitious goal of feeding thousands of families before Thanksgiving.
