The new executive director of Extra Table has only been in Hattiesburg for a few months, but she has immersed herself wholly in her work – and in our community.
A native of north Mississippi, Martha Allen has an infectious smile and her energy is magnetic. In her new role leading one of the state’s fastest-growing charitable organizations, she has proven herself willing to roll up her sleeves and put in the elbow grease necessary to inspire her volunteers and impress her board of directors.
Extra Table founder and board chairman Robert St. John is convinced she is one of the most gifted networkers he has ever met.
“She has one speed – all-out, full-tilt, fifth gear at 90 miles per hour. I have lived in this town for 57 years and I know a lot of people. I think Martha may know more than me after just six months. She continues to impress.”
With that kind of endorsement, Allen will have plenty of opportunities. Here’s hoping she decides to make Hattiesburg her home for a long, long time.
