Bond has been set for the two suspects that were arrested in connection to a recent shooting at Heritage Apartments in Hattiesburg that resulted in one man’s death.
During a December 1 initial appearance at Forrest County Justice Court, Municipal Judge Wes Curry set a $280,000 bond each for Mya Everett and Nikel Hammond, both 21-year-old Hattiesburg residents.
The shooting occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. November 26, after which Hattiesburg Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at the apartment complex, which is located in the 200 block of South 29thAvenue in Hattiesburg. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a deceased male with a gunshot wound.
The next day, Lisa Klem, who serves as Forrest County Deputy Coroner, identified the man as 24-year-old Brystin Varnado of Hattiesburg.
Everett and Hammond were taken into custody on November 29; each woman was charged with one count of conspiracy of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery. The $280,000 bond for each suspect consists of $250,000 for the attempted armed robbery charge and $30,000 for the conspiracy charge.
Curry also ordered the women to have no contact with the victim of the attempted robbery.
Because the investigation into the incident is still underway, no further information is available at this time.
