What a great time to be living, working, and playing in the Pine Belt! First, Tuesday night was our first awards celebration for “20 Under 40.” We had 19 honorees in attendance, along with their family, friends, and coworkers. Lisa Gunter and her staff at Southern Oaks House and Gardens were amazing. The venue was beautiful, and the food was spectacular. They were a joy to work with and I heartily recommend this venue to anyone looking for a stress-free event. We got to learn a little bit about each of the honorees, and if you have any doubt that our future is bright indeed, don’t miss our special section publishing in The Pine Belt News on May 4. You will get a chance to meet these outstanding young professionals, and I guarantee you will be impressed with not only their accomplishments but their commitments to making this little piece of the world a better place.
Second, how bout those Eagles? We are a baseball family, and I can’t remember a time of such anticipation and excitement. The crowds at Pete Taylor Park are electric and, if you haven’t experienced the “throw it in the dirt” guy, it is well worth your price of admission to witness how he effortlessly draws the crowd in. This team plays with poise and seems to thrive on the come-from-behind win. Kudos to head coach Scott Berry and his staff on their record-breaking season!
Finally, it doesn’t seem possible, but it is time to nominate your favorite businesses and professionals for the 14th annual FestivalSouth Best of the Pine Belt. Nominations will open on Monday, May 3, and will go through Sunday, May 22. The top 5 from each category will move on to the voting phase, so please nominate early and often. Every nomination counts! It is easy to make your voice heard, just go to hubcityspokes.com and click on “Best of the Pine Belt.” After the nomination phase is complete, we will be voting beginning on July 4 and ending on July 24. We’ve got a great celebration planned to wrap up the contest – more to come but plan on channeling your inner Elvis, Pink Lady, or greaser!
