Former Southern Miss track and field star and three-time Olympic medalist Tori Bowie has died at the age of 32, according to her management company, Icon Management Inc. and USA Track and Field.
“We’re devasted to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away,” said Icon Management Inc. on Twitter. “We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that was so bright! We’re truly heartbroken, and our prayers are with the family and friends.”
Bowie was born in Sandhill, Mississippi, and a graduate of Pisgah High School.
At Southern Miss, Bowie swept the long jump NCAA Championship in both indoor and outdoor events in 2011.
On the international level, Bowie was part of Team USA’s gold-medal-winning 4X100-meter relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics and also earned a silver medal in 100m and bronze in the 200m dash. In 2017 she won gold in 100m at the World Championships and was the last American woman to do so.
Her cause of death has not been released.
