Despite playing just one year at Southern Miss, Dalton McIntyre quickly made a name for himself as the Atlanta Braves selected the Golden Eagles' leadoff hitter in the 19th round.
McIntyre, the 581st overall pick, is the second Southern Miss player in this year's draft, with Niko Mazza chosen earlier in the eighth round.
In his lone season at USM, McIntyre led the Golden Eagles with a .388 batting average while hitting 12 doubles, driving in 34 runs, and scoring 52 times, making him a second-team Sun Belt All-Conference selection. McIntyre's speed helped him reach base from an infield single over 30 times this past season.
The junior was ranked No. 463 on Baseball America's top 500 list.
Prior to Southern Miss, the Jackson, Tenn., native spent two seasons at Meridian Community College. In his second year with the Eagles, McIntyre held a .488 average, drove in 28 runs and stole 36 bases.
Southern Miss signee Lucas Elissalt was selected 386th overall in the 13th round by the Detroit Tigers.
