The Southern Miss women will be making their seventh appearance in the WNIT.
The Lady Eagles (18-13) earned an at-large bid to the tournament and will host former Conference USA rival UAB on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The winner of this game will play Murray State, which received a bye.
UAB (18-13) lost its opening-round game in the American Athletic Conference tournament to Rice with the Lady Blazers losing their five last games. The Lady Eagles are winners of 10 of their last 12 games before being losing in the Sun Belt conference tournament semifinals.
Southern Miss is 41-28 all-time against UAB. The last meeting between the two programs ended with Lady Eagles defeating the Blazers 67-57 on the road back in the 2021-22 season.
Domonique Davis and Hattiesburg High alum Melyia Grayson both earned spots on the Sun Belt’s conference teams with Davis collecting first team honors and Grayson landing on third team. The two All-Sun Belt Conference selections joined the 1,000-point club this season and have combined to score 919 points.
UAB’s Mia Moore was named the AAC’s Newcomer of the Year after leading the Lady Blazers with 15.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. She was also named to the AAC’s All-Conference third team.
Southern Miss last appeared in the WNIT in the 2016-17 season and are 7-7 all-time in the tournament.
The 2024 postseason WNIT will mark Southern Miss’ 17th postseason appearance in program history and ninth trip to the WNIT. It will be the Lady Eagles’ first trip to the tournament since 2017 and fifth selection under Joye Lee-McNelis.
Southern Miss’ best run in the WNIT came in 2015, when the Lady Eagles advanced to the Great Eight at Reed Green Coliseum before falling 69-60 to Michigan.
