For the third consecutive year, William Carey University students are brightening Milo’s Sky-High Art Gallery in the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum with a vibrant display of original artwork. Curated from studio classes in painting, drawing, and printmaking (both advanced and introductory), this year’s banners feature a mix of media and styles, including ink, graphite, oil, and watercolor, with works ranging from realism to abstraction.
“These works reflect a real joy in the art-making process,” said Dr. Edward Ford, Professor of Art at WCU. “You can see the students exploring their voices, their techniques, and their creative passions.”
“We are delighted to display the art banners from William Carey University again this summer,” said Hattiesburg Pocket Museum volunteer and Curator, Vicki Taylor. “The bright and beautiful banners bring such a strong visual impact to our alley that visitors can enjoy.”
Student artwork was created under the guidance of Jeff Revette, Chatham Kemp, and Edward Ford, faculty members in the William Carey University art department. The featured student artists are: Chloe Courtney, Gabby Ladd, Ana Walters, Sheldon Montgomery, Lisa Tran, Jakara Hardy, Sumer West, Arielle Williams, Ella Pitts, Eva Jones, Gracyn Deans, Charissa Yager, and Haley Hudgins. Some students have multiple banners.
Banners will remain on display through the end of July—with the possibility of an extension. Stop by the alley and look up to see creativity soaring sky-high!
