Arc of Southeast Mississippi, an organization dedicated to some of the sweetest souls in the Pine Belt, is gearing up for their 21st Annual Golf Ball Drop and Golf Tournament fundraiser, scheduled for Monday, November 3 at Canebrake Golf Club. The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Arc, which partners with United Way and Canebrake, to help fund engaging and stimulating activities for individuals with disabilities.
Participants who purchase one of only 1,000 golf balls available each year, priced at $100 each, are assigned a number. On the day of the event, the numbered golf balls are loaded into a bag, carried onto a helicopter, and dropped from the hovering helicopter over a hole. The ball that goes into the hole is the winner. If none make it into the hole, the closest ball to the hole is the winner. If more than one ball goes into the hole, the prize of up to $20,000 is split between the parties.
“We are so blessed by the support of our community for so many years,” said Cindy Pennington, executive director of The Arc. “I like to always say that everybody is a winner who buys a golf ball because you’re winning by helping someone else have such quality life.”
Golf balls, golf tournament entries, and hole sponsorships can be purchased online at hattiesburgarc.com/fundraisers, by calling (601)583-4251, by printing the application on the website and mailing it into The Arc or by contacting an Arc participant.
