WCU softball splits doubleheader Tuesday

HATTIESBURG – No. 15 William Carey University softball returned to action for the first time in nine days as it split its Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with Georgetown College at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.

Errors proved costly for the Lady Crusaders as they dropped Game 1 of the 5-2.

The Lady Crusaders left little to doubt in Game 2 as they rolled to a 10-1 win in five innings.

In the first inning, Carey jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on sacrifice flies by Anna Kennedy (So./Taylorsville) and Kaitlyn Thompson (Sr./Denham Springs, La.).  In the second inning the Lady Crusaders put the game away for good. WCU sent thirteen batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on six hits.

WCU was led at the plate by Kristen Sexton (Jr./Gulfport) who finished 3-for-3 and 2 RBI, while Macy Monk (Sr./Denham Springs, La.) went 2-for-2.

The Lady Crusaders are back in action Friday as they travel to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on (RV) Faulkner University in SSAC play.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Hal Wynn Field.
