Touch schedule continues for Sumrall with West Marion game.

Sumrall experienced a tough road loss last Friday to Presbyterian Christian, but is looking to get things going against West Marion this week. The Bobcats are currently on a two-game losing and scoring streak bringing them to a 2-2 record for the season.

Coach Shannon White’s message to the team is he still believes in the team’s direction but believes that improvements on the offensive side are key for future success.

“It’s a pretty simple message. We told our guys we have to execute plays better,” White said. “We can’t continue to have penalties and mental mistakes in the ballgame. Nothing works when you miss blocks and have bad snaps. I feel like our defense is doing a great job.”

Sumrall has one of the hardest schedules in the area as they play another tough opponent in West Marion. The coach is fully aware of the things that stand out on the talented Trojans’ team.

“They are fast and physical,” he said. “They remind me of Hazlehurst that won state several years ago. Defensively they are violent. Most of those guys turn around on offense and do the same thing. They just play at a pace most teams do not get to see. I cannot stress how good their football team is. We really have our hands full, but we look forward to the challenge on Friday.

The Trojans are 4-0 this year. The offense has averaged 138 yards in the air and 208 yards on the ground. Scoring 20 touchdowns this year the Trojans have outscored their opponents 137-20 in four games.

“We’ve just got to contain them on the defensive line this week,” White said. “Offensively they put a lot of guys in the box and they bring aggression. We just have to react fast and execute our plays better. We have had a lot of success with our offensive scheme before. It’s a good offense. We just have to do a better job at executing our game plan and we should be on the right side of things.”

Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Sumrall.
