The fearless Oak Grove Warriors came out of their fieldhouse with one mission “Keep Playing”, per Coach Drew Causey’s message to his team following the win in last Friday’s match up against Northwest Rankin.
In the first round of playoffs against The Ocean Springs Greyhounds, The Warrior defense held the Greyhounds to only two scoring touchdowns the entire game. The story for Oak Grove was completely different. Quarterback #17 Damon Stewart was unstoppable, throwing 4 touchdown receptions in just the first 24 minutes of regulation. The first two receptions were received by #5 WR Tavion Smith which would total 23 yards together. The third and fourth touchdown receptions for The Warriors came in the 2nd quarter. One reception by Senior WR #16 Brandon Hayes which was a 19-yd TD, and the other reception by Senior WR #8 Liam Breithaupt for 5 yds into the endzone. Stewart did not let up. He would go on to rush 2 additional touchdowns for the Warriors which would easily qualify him as “the player of the game”. Catching up with Damon following the 42-14 victory over Ocean Springs, he made it known that “this game is not a one guy thing, we don’t point fingers, it’s a team effort. We put our foot down against Ocean Springs, and we did not let up. Moving forward if we continue to play as a team together, the sky is the limit from here for us”.
The first half energy of The Warriors carried over for the remainder of the game. Coach Causey made the decision at the end of the third quarter to take his starters out of the game for the rest of regulation. Praying and congratulating his team after the victory, Coach Drew also knew there were other things that The Warriors must work on moving forward. “Tonight, you all did what you were supposed to do. You all held them and did not let up. Rather we play at home or away next week, we must give it our all. We cannot win big football games with twenty or more penalties. We still have a lot of things to fix to get even better”.
The Warriors look to take on The Gulfport Admirals in the next round of playoffs on November 22nd. During the first match up of this season, The Warriors defeated the Admirals 37-13. Oak Grove is anticipating another victory against Gulfport as they get ready to hit the road in next week’s match up.
