Oak Grove girls off to hot start.

With the boys’ program getting much of the attention, the Oak Grove Lady Warriors are silently off to a great start in the 2019-20 basketball season. Sitting at 10-5 overall, Coach Mark Swindle and the Lady Warriors are doing everything they can to keep the streak alive as district play gets underway.

“We have been playing some real good competition so far this season,” Swindle said. “We are trying to get our chemistry together and get ready for district play. I am pleased with the way that we have started the season and look forward to us progressing as the season continues moving forward.”

Senior Jada Tatum leads all scorers and averages 10 points per game and also leads the team in rebounds at 4.5 per outing. An aggressive player on the post, Tatum has a 15-foot shot that is on the money most of the time when she gets an open look.

Shakiya Bolton is another senior that is looked upon to bring her game time experience and leadership to this team. Her solid defense has her averaging some 1.5 steals per game.

Swindle said sophomores Kennidi Dean and Natalia McGee have stepped up this year and are also contributing on the offensive side averaging some five points per game.

“We are a young group this year,” explained Swindle. “Our sophomore class is really good this season. With the development of our youth, I am excited to see our progression to the test. If we work hard and progress everyday we should be a really good team this year.

The success of the first half of the season was put to test Tuesday when the Lady Warriors traveled to Meridian to face the top-ranked Lady Wildcats in a key district showdown.
