JCJC players, coach selected for women’s basketball all-star weekend

ELLISVILLE – Three players and a coach will represent Jones County Junior College in the ninth annual NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend July 21-24 in Niceville, Florida, on the campus of Northwest Florida State College.

Guard Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas), guard/forward Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) and guard K.K. Tassin (Terry) will play in the event. JCJC assistant Brooke Rhodes will serve as head coach of one of the teams.

Tolefree, a 5-foot-8 rising sophomore guard, was named an NJCAA Division I first-team All-American this past season.

She averaged 20.0 points, 2.8 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game. She was 162-of-354 from the field for 45.8 percent and was 84-of-215 from 3-point range for 39.1 percent. The Ole Miss commit was 71-of-87 from the free throw line for 81.6 percent.
She was named to the NJCAA Division I All-Tournament Team and was named All-Region 23. Tolefree transferred to JCJC from the University of Central Arkansas.
Cherry, a 6-foot-1 rising sophomore forward, was named an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman. She averaged 12.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She had 21 'double-doubles' on the season. She also had 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game.
Cherry was also named All-Region 23.

Tassin, a 5-foot-9 rising sophomore guard, averaged 10.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She was name All-MACJC Honorable Mention.

Rhodes enters her second year as an assistant coach at JCJC.
Prior to coming to JCJC, Rhodes served two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Central Arkansas. She helped guide UCA to a Southland Conference Tournament championship in 2015-16.
Rhodes had a successful playing career at Southern Miss and Delta State in which her teams went 96-32 (.744).

The Lady Bobcats had a record-setting, 30-2 mark in 2016-17 and made the school's first-ever trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

Only 40 players from around the country are invited to the All-Star event this weekend.
