Services held for George Boone, third-generation owner of Dews & Sons

George C. Boone, a third-generation owner and Vice-President of Hattiesburg’s C.L. Dews & Sons Foundry, died Jan. 6, 2020.

He was 73.

Boone was a founding member of the board of directors at the Forrest County Multi Purpose Building and a former board member of Forrest General Hospital.

He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church.

His love of horses, cowboys and cowgirls lead him to be instrumental in the formation of the U.S.M. Coca-Cola Classic Rodeo.

He was an avid outdoorsman and member of the New Orleans Big Game Fishing Club. 

Boone was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Dews Boone and George O. Boone, Jr. and one granddaughter, Mary Glenn McNease.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Boone of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Georgia Leigh Boone and Bethany Boone McNease (Shea), both of Hattiesburg; one sister, Sandra Norris (T.J.) of Hattiesburg; two grandchildren, George Morris McNease and Evelyn Rebecca McNease; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 9 at First Presbyterian Church under direction of Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home and burial was in Roseland Park Cemetery in Hattiesburg.
