PEARL – The Sumrall Bobcats couldn’t find that elusive timely hit in Game 2 of the 4A State Championship series Friday.

PEARL – The Sumrall offense scored seven runs off nine hits Thursday in Game 1 of the 4A State Championship series, but 11 runners left on base came back to haunt the Bobcats.

SUMRALL – Hunter Barrett found himself at the bottom of a dogpile Tuesday night, and there was no place he’d rather be in that moment.

After resigning as the Southern Miss head softball coach Friday, Wendy Hogue is returning to Petal High School to head the softball program once again. The school board approved the hiring on Tuesday, and she’ll be introduced at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday inside the Petal Football Fieldhouse.

Warriors travel to George County

LUCEDALE – After a quick 3-0 start for Oak Grove, it had a scheduled bye week immediately after its first loss of the season to Hattiesburg.

On one hand, players had to stew on their first loss of the season, anxiously waiting for region play to start this Friday, but on the flip side, it gave the Warriors a chance to get healthy.


Crusaders bring momentum to Resurrection to open region play

PASCAGOULA – Sacred Heart needed something good to go in its direction heading into Region 8-1A play this week, and it got that Friday in a 21-14 win over St. Patrick.

The Crusaders snapped a two-game losing skid to get back in the win column, which gives them a little positive momentum before playing Resurrection (1-4) Friday night.


Lumberton's journey for back-to-back district titles begins Friday

LUMBERTON – The Lumberton Panthers are right where they want to be. They’ve posted a 3-1 record through the first four games, and the Panthers start their quest for another district title Friday night at home against Mount Olive.

Coming off a bye, coach Zach Jones said his team did everything he wanted them to do during the off week.

With district play starting this week for most teams, I thought it would be a good idea to break down what these teams will be up against in each district. Purvis and Sumrall are the lone teams that aren’t starting district play this week, and the two will get started next week with a matchup against each other.
