Entering his fourth season as the head coach of his hometown team, Lumberton’s Zach Jones has never had a problem finding a running back to tote the ball.

This part of the country is known as an untapped well for the recruitment of high school boy’s soccer players. There are just not many opportunities to go around.

PRCC opens South Division play at East Central Thursday night

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College looks to get back on track and open South Division the right way this week when the Wildcats make their first road trip of the season to East Central.

Kickoff Thursday at Bailey Stadium in Decatur is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.



PREP POLL: Hattiesburg moves up in Top 10

Hattiesburg was the big winner in this week’s Associated Press Prep Poll, as the Tigers climbed into the Top 5 after beating previously No. 4-ranked Oak Grove.

The Warriors dropped to No. 8 in the overall poll, and No. 5 in the 6A poll, while Hattiesburg stayed put behind West Point in 5A, which is the No. 1 team in the state.

Southern Miss took down Southern University 45-0 Saturday, Sept. 9 to earn its first win of the season.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) will travel to Louisiana-Monroe, a Sun Belt Conference team, Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest.

JCJC soccer sweeps

ELLISVILLE – There were plenty of superlatives for both Jones County Junior College soccer teams here on a pleasant Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.

Aimee Durn (Watford, England) had four goals and an assist to help the No. 19 Jones County Lady Bobcats whip Meridian, 8-1.


Bobcats blitz Mississippi Delta

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College was solid all the way around in gaining its first victory of the season Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium-Sim Cooley Field.


Wildcats come up short

POPLARVILLE – No. 5 Northwest Mississippi was every bit as good as its ranking Thursday night as the Rangers dominated Pearl River 34-21 in MACJC football action at Dobie Holden Stadium.

PRCC (1-1) fell behind 27-0 in the second quarter and never recovered; Northwest is 1-0 after its first completed game of the year.
