Lumberton seeks new city attorney

Lamar County officials are looking for a new city attorney to fill the position of former attorney Brad Touchstone, who vacated the seat when he was elected Nov. 6 as the new Lamar County Court Judge.

“We’re probably hoping to get someone who could serve as defense attorney also, because Brad was basically wearing two hats and doing two jobs for the city,” Mayor Quincy Rogers said. “So we’re going to miss him, and we wish him the best.”

Qualified applicants are encouraged to deliver their resumes and applications to Lumberton City Hall, 102 East Main St. in Lumberton, marked attention to the mayor.

“We’re looking to fill the job (soon), because right now we’re without an attorney,” Rogers said. “We’re looking to fill it as soon as possible, but we don’t want to go too fast and not have the right person for the job. I would hope within the next month or so, we should be able to have this job filled.”

Touchstone, who also served as the District 101 representative in the Mississippi House of Representatives, won the Lamar County Court Judge seat after defeating challenger Douglas E. Miller 13,260 votes to 4,067. A special election will be held March 12 to fill the vacant District 101 position.
