New principal sought for HPSD’s Rowan Elementary

With the start of a new school year just a couple of weeks away, the Hattiesburg Public School District (HPSD) is working to identify a new leader for one of its elementary schools.

According to HPSD Communications and Engagement Coordinator Samone Wilson, Rowan Elementary Principal Donna Scott has been named superintendent of the South Pike School District, located in Magnolia.

Scott is a 1981 alumna of Hattiesburg High School. A veteran educator with 20 years of experience, she has served as principal at Rowan for the past four years. 

PARENTS, GUARDIANS ENCOURAGED TO PRE-REGISTER

Following the July 9 HPSD Board of Trustees meeting, districtwide registration for students in grades K-12 will be held from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 29, at the N.R. Burger Transploreum. Registration at individual school sites will be held from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30. Proof of residency in the district will be required. Late registration at each individual school site is set from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. August 9-16.

No late registration will take place during staff development days (August 1-6) or on the first days of school (August 7-8).

TIGER PERKS DESIGNED TO RETAIN, RECRUIT EMPLOYEES

The HPSD is partnering with local businesses in the Hattiesburg area to offer Tiger Perks to its approximately 650 employees to show its appreciation for their service to the district. Through the program, gift cards, discounts, and buy-one-get-one deals, among other offers, are made directly to district employees. The deadline to be included in the program is July 26.
