Downtown H'burg plans for spooky Art Walk

By STAFF REPORTS,

Downtown Hattiesburg’s 2018 Fall Art Walk is set for Saturday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 with special “trick or treat in the streets” time from 3 to 5 p.m. Individuals and families with children of all ages are invited to attend.

Dozens of art vendors will line the streets of downtown, and live music and various art activities will be offered throughout the event.

“We’ve received a tremendous positive response from art vendors and businesses thus far, and the “trick or treat in the streets” is sure to be a fun twist this year,” said Andrea Saffle, executive director of Downtown Hattiesburg Association. “With cooler temperatures and great participation from our downtown merchants, this year’s Fall Art Walk may just be our best one yet.  Costumes are not only welcome, they are encouraged. Our goal is for everyone to get downtown and have a great time.”

Special art exhibits will be presented by the Hattiesburg Arts Council and the Southern Miss Architecture Department with children-friendly art activities, hosted by SmART Space, taking place on Front Street.

Additional galleries open during the event include Kress Gallery and Oddfellows Gallery.

Downtown businesses will participate with open doors and special promotions while taking part in trick-or-treat activities. A map of participating merchants and restaurants will be available at the Art Walk information booth, located at the intersection of Front and Main Streets. While strolling to each location, attendees can enjoy a variety of live music from three distinct areas on Front Street, near Mississippi Music, and on Main Street.

Food, craft, and art vendors from the Hattiesburg Farmer’s Market will be featured on Main Street, in addition to live music, carnival games, and paint your own pottery at Main Street Books.

"With the growth of quality events and the newly-installed string lights throughout much of downtown Hattiesburg, the atmosphere continues to attract people to this part of our community,” said Marlo Dorsey, executive director of VisitHattiesburg. “We believe our streets, booths, and businesses will be filled with many happy attendees for this Fall’s Art Walk. It’s a great time to get downtown for locals and our out of town guests.”
