Step back in time at zoo’s Renaissance FestBy STAFF REPORTS,
Thou shalt reverse time and step into a world of olde for the Renaissance Festival at the Hattiesburg Zoo, sponsored by SOLAR Mississippi.
This magical event happens at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, and Sunday, March 1.
The weekend will be filled with whimsy and fun, with live performances by a troupe of sprightly actors, a knighting ceremony fit for all squires and maidens and a daunting display of raptors. Guests are highly encouraged to dress in medieval clothing, and stockades will be out for some fabulous photo opportunities.
To be officially knighted during the knighting ceremony, children will participate in the SOLAR Conservation Quest, a scavenger hunt that incorporates zoo conservation. Activity stations include candle-making, butter-making, horseshoe throwing, archery and an apothecary station.
They can also enjoy a hula hoop show, themed games, larping (live-action roleplay) and theatrical performances.
For “ye elder folk,” there will be an exclusive wine tasting along with enchanted tea time. Safari Grill will be adding delicious smoked turkey legs to the menu.
Tickets can be purchased at the Asbury Discovery Center for the wine tasting the day of the event, and you must be 21 years or older to participate. Mead will be available for purchase while supplies last.
Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children and free for children under 2.
Annual passes do apply for entry.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate the day of the event.
