Wade named Petal DYW

Loren Wade was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Petal for 2021 at the program held Saturday, Jan. 11 at Petal High School.

Wade also received the overall award for self-expression and was winner of the “Be Your Best Self Essay,” award.



Services held for George Boone, third-generation owner of Dews & Sons

George C. Boone, a third-generation owner and Vice-President of Hattiesburg’s C.L. Dews & Sons Foundry, died Jan. 6, 2020.

He was 73.

Boone was a founding member of the board of directors at the Forrest County Multi Purpose Building and a former board member of Forrest General Hospital.

Alcohol sales at USM football games garners $100,000

In the summer of 2019, the University of Southern Mississippi decided to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages at football games and other sporting events.

To be clear: Only beer and wine are being served to people under the auspices of the USM banner, at the university’s games. Liquor is a different issue altogether.
