Longleaf Elementary receives $2,500 STEM Pipeline grant

On Wednesday, Mississippi Representative Kent McCarty joined Pete Martinez, deputy vice president of state advocacy of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), at Longleaf Elementary to announce a $2,500 STEM Pipeline educational grant to support the school’s initiatives for STEM curriculum.

Hattiesburg has five “B” rated schools for first time ever

The Hattiesburg Public School District is excited to have five of the district schools receive a “B” rating in this year’s Mississippi Statewide Accountability System. Grace Christian, Hawkins Elementary, Thames Elementary, Woodley Elementary and Burger Middle School were all named High Performing Schools.

When I was a kid, there were very few residents of Hispanic origin here in Hattiesburg. We were a city of, basically, blacks and whites. I had a couple of Asian-American classmates at Hattiesburg's Blair High School, but all in all, ours was not much of an international city. Boy, has that ever changed.
