East Hardy bridge construction slated for summer

It will only be a matter of months before construction begins on a new East Hardy Street bridge.

A proposed layout for the new bridge was presented to the Forrest County Board of Supervisors Monday. The new structure will replace the almost 70-year-old bridge connecting East Hardy Street in Hattiesburg and South Main Street in Petal.



Hattiesburg parade, tree lighting Thursday, Dec. 5

On Thursday, December 5, the City of Hattiesburg will kick off the Christmas season with the Hattiesburg Jaycee’s 69th annual Christmas Parade and the city’s Tree Lighting event at Town Square Park.

The theme for this year’s parade is Miracle on Main Street and will feature bands, floats, walking groups, beauty queens and much more.

Lumberton on to South State with dramatic win against Leflore County

The Lumberton Panthers are heading to the South State Championship after defeating Leflore County in a nail biter Friday night.

In a game that see-sawed back and forth with five lead changes, Lumberton’s defense again stood strong late in the game to give the Panthers the 29-28 win in dramatic fashion.


Donation of former McDonald’s building not so ‘golden’

The fate of the former McDonald’s building on East Central Avenue in Petal is still up in the air, at least for the time being.

The Petal Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to deny owner David McKellar’s proposed donation of the property to the city, with Mayor Hal Marx suggesting the city would have no use for the building.

Charity Ball fundraiser to benefit local children/families set for Oct. 26

Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg’s annual charity ball fundraiser is set for Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Hattiesburg Country Club. The event, which raises money to directly benefit local children and families through community projects, begins at 6 p.m. Event tickets are $100 per couple and include appetizers and a meal.
