State health department issues new recommendations for face masks

Given the rising number of cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and the increased risk of exposure to both the health care provider and the patient, the Mississippi State Department of Health now recommends that health care workers wear a face covering, either manufactured or an appropriate cloth mask, throughout the workday.

Hattiesburg, Forrest County declare local state of emergency

Following the lead of the federal government on Friday afternoon, Forrest County Board of Supervisors President David Hogan and Mayor Toby Barker both signed documents declaring the response to COVID-19 a local emergency, which has been categorized as a pandemic event, for both Forrest County and the City of Hattiesburg.

To help protect the health of the community during the current COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Toby Barker has issued an executive order that will limit the hours and services of Hattiesburg restaurants, bars and nightclubs – including closing earlier and limiting the number of customers – while still allowing those establishments to fulfill the needs
