Son of former sheriff facing simple assault charges

The son of former Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee will soon appear in court to face a charge of assault by attempt of physical menace with fear or threat/simple assault.

According to documents from Hattiesburg Police Department and Hattiesburg Municipal Court, Forrest McGee is scheduled to come before the court on Feb. 12.

Thinking back, Beth Bunch may have been the very first local person I met on my first trip to Hattiesburg back in October 2009.

Faculty, staff, students raise over $6K for Texas school district

Faculty, staff and students in Petal School District have been pinching pennies lately as a way to pay it forward to other districts affected by hurricanes.

After Petal was hit by a tornado in January, numerous school districts reached out to Petal School District to offer assistance.
