Petal Education Foundation to host ‘Coffee with Coach Thompson’

One of Petal High School’s most beloved teachers will soon return to his old classroom for “Coffee with Coach” and “Class with Coach,” two events hosted by the Petal Education Foundation that will reunite Coach Si Thompson with former students and other acquaintances to benefit the foundation.

As a sports official, Hattiesburg’s Forrest Phillips did not specialize. No, he called football, basketball and baseball.

He officiated private schools and public schools, girls and boys. He called little league games, high school games, junior college games and college games.

INAUGURAL CLASs: Foundation announces 14 HPSD Hall of Fame members

Fourteen distinguished alumni of Hattiesburg’s city schools will be inducted into the inaugural HPSD Foundation Hall of Fame during a two-day event Oct. 4-5.

Inductees for the first-ever Hattiesburg Hall of Fame class come from the fields of business, politics, education, medicine, entertainment, journalism and sports.
