Black History Month: USO busy planning kick off event for a busy February

The African American Military History Museum will be hosting a new exhibition - Shaping America: African American Women in the Armed Forces and Beyond.

The kickoff event is set for January 30 at 10:00 a.m., at the historic USO, located in the heart of the Sixth Street Museum District.

'Stand down!' You can’t find happiness unless you’re happy with yourself

In the Navy, when things start falling off airplanes, ships start running aground, and sailors start going over the hill, the head shed will often completely stop operations and call for a “stand-down,” a time to stop, think, and figure out what is going wrong.

Stand-downs often have to do with safety or discipline.



SUMRALL: School board declares state of emergency for SHS softball facility

Lamar County School District officials are hoping an emergency declaration for the softball complex at Sumrall High School will expedite that site’s recovery from the EF3 tornado that barreled through the area in December, tearing off the backstop, knocking down the bleachers and sending pieces of lumber through the building.
