Alcohol sales at USM football games garners $100,000

In the summer of 2019, the University of Southern Mississippi decided to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages at football games and other sporting events.

To be clear: Only beer and wine are being served to people under the auspices of the USM banner, at the university’s games. Liquor is a different issue altogether.

Pine Belt potters gathered Saturday at Main Street Books for what has become an annual Throw-A-Thon for Empty Bowls.

This year’s fundraiser, which support the Edwards Street Fellowship food pantry, will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Nov. 2 at Main Street Books on Main Street.


SUMRALL: School board declares state of emergency for SHS softball facility

Lamar County School District officials are hoping an emergency declaration for the softball complex at Sumrall High School will expedite that site’s recovery from the EF3 tornado that barreled through the area in December, tearing off the backstop, knocking down the bleachers and sending pieces of lumber through the building.

Everybody’s entitled to their opinion, especially when it comes to the movies. Somewhere out there is a person, maybe even two, whose all-time favorite is “The Boy Who Could Fly.”

So, if culture writer Brian Raftery wants to argue that 1999 was the best movie year ever, let him go for it and enjoy the ride.
