Happy New Year Hub City

Last week local artist Glenda Grubbs signed copies of her poster, Happy New Year Hub City, at the Hattiesburg Visitors Center. The poster was recently unveiled as the wining entry in this year’s contest to depict Hattiesburg’s annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop.

Thinking back, Beth Bunch may have been the very first local person I met on my first trip to Hattiesburg back in October 2009.

I was here for a long weekend to scope out the area and to undergo a couple of job interviews about the possibility of becoming the next publisher of this newspaper and its affiliated products.

INAUGURAL CLASs: Foundation announces 14 HPSD Hall of Fame members

Fourteen distinguished alumni of Hattiesburg’s city schools will be inducted into the inaugural HPSD Foundation Hall of Fame during a two-day event Oct. 4-5.

Inductees for the first-ever Hattiesburg Hall of Fame class come from the fields of business, politics, education, medicine, entertainment, journalism and sports.
